The State Dancing and Singing Ensemble "Horovel"
The National singing and dancing ensemble of "Horovel" is well known not only in our
republic but also abroad. People had listener and attended its concerts in Moscow, Kiev
and many other soviet towns and cities as well as in many foreign countries.
This ensemble was organized in 1958 in #1 cultural club named after Ghukas Ghukasian
on the base of the vocal-dancing ensemble. This ensemble has a very rich biography.
This ensemble had won gold medal in the international youth festival in1967. In 1968
the ensemble valued the 1st prize in Berlin festival.
In 1969 the ensemble valued the first quality diploma in Moscow when this ensemble
gave a concert, which was organized there when they celebrated the 100the anniversary
of Hovhanes Toumanian.
In 1972 they valued the mastery of this ensemble and they named this ensemble as a state
ensemble and gave it the name "Horovel". This dancing and singing state ensemble's
leadership was Levon Sargsian and the main composer was Vagharshak Kotoian and
the chief ballet-master Khachatur Margarian. Since that year this ensemble takes part in
different holidays such as in the Harvest holiday in Sister-city Banjo in France
and won the attention of the public.
Since its first days this ensemble had taken activities in Kirovakan, when this town
celebrated the "Song" Holiday, and in all celebrations in our republic "Erebuni -Yerevan"
Golden Autumn and others.
In 1976 the chief consultant of this ensemble was our citizen composer Grigor Hakhinian.
With the group of this dancing ensemble great people worked such as Azat Gharibian,
Vanoush Gharibian.Vilen Gaistian, Khachik Margarian, whose dances gave a special chance
to this ensemble in order to remain this ensemble as a national-ethnographic single
collective in Armenia.
In 1980 the chief of this ensemble was Stepan Rostuni, who later became the headmaster
of the ensemble.
In these years he made new styles, beautiful instrumental groups and he wrote many new
works for its chorus.
In these years this ensemble gave many concerts in North Caucasus and many other towns
and cities, took part in the celebration of Armavir town's 150 anniversary.
In 1988 during the earthquake the ensemble continued its activities with its charity
concerts in the cities along the Black Sea, where thousands of our people had been
evacuated. In 1990 a new headmaster was elected. She was Elmira Kroian, after 2 years
she was elected as the chief of this ensemble. In 1997 Gagik Ananian was elected as
the chief director of this ensemble. The ensemble twice had been in Italy and had taken
part in international festivals and for its activities had won many prizes. It had taken
part in "Babelon” festival in Irak. Today this ensemble is doing its best and making its
activities. It had passed a long difficult way, but this way is very beautiful for this
ensemble. It has 30 years of history and has the right to continue its way as it has a
national origin and it shows the heart of the Armenian people. In the program of "Horovel"
there are the old national songs and dances and their famous works of great people.
Now the headmaster of the ensemble "Horovel" is Gagik Ananian. The musical part's chief
is Elmira Kroian, the main ballet master is Levon Abrahamian.
